Yogi. Traveler. Rancher.
Meet your guide.
After the sale of her family’s ranch in Arizona, Lisa opened up a B&B in Tubac, Arizona. Her continued interest in Yoga developed while hosting a week-long Yoga Retreat and attending some of the sessions. She had practiced the occasional yoga class over the years while working and raising her two sons; but, during this week long retreat, she began to feel the pent-up tension release as the body opened and loosened. The effects of horseback riding for hours, equine accidents, the sheer physical aspect of ranching combined with prior years of sitting doing office work, caused major physical repercussions. The body was welcoming a different kind of movement allowing it to soften at its own pace.
In addition to the physical release, the grief of her mother’s death and loss of the ranch, began to lessen through breathwork (calming the mind), release the emotional tension (tense shoulders, neck issues…) Focusing on physical sensations and breath helped pull the mind away from the repetitive, painful loops of losses.

The healing journey to peace and finding home
In 1995-2018, Lisa’s began her solo world exploration interspersed with owning a B&B. She traveled to parts of South America and Europe, and an RV trip through No. America exploring not only the countries, provinces and states but herself and learning through her loss.
A trip toThailand in 2005 turned into a year-long journey through Asia with an introduction to Ayurvedic medicine, Ashtanga and Iyengar Yoga, meditation, and a panchakarma cleansing in Kerala.
On a drive to visit her son in 2006, she spent the night in Taos and knew she had finally found her home.
a slow trot home
A memoir about life on the ranch
1958 was the year life came into focus for Lisa Sharp. Her mother, newly divorced, began the move from California to the San Rafael Cattle Company, a 22,000-acre cattle ranch south of Patagonia, Arizona. Leaving the city life behind, Lisa and her family traded paved roads, dependable electricity, and telephones for wide open spaces, prairie grass, horses, and cattle.
Most eight-year-olds would have been homesick. When she first walked into the ranch corrals, "I became a part of that world as easily as that first shoot of spring grass. . . . I was home."
A Slow Trot Home stitches together vignettes about the author's mother, ranching, cowboys, and a love of the land that is passed down through generations. With poignant reflections on ranch living along the US/Mexico border, Lisa resurrects an era that, for so many of us, endures only as a memory.
